John 'Jack' Scholz, 94, Fairfield WWII Veteran

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – John "Jack" F. Scholz of Fairfield died Nov. 25. He was 94.

Born in Stepney, Conn., Scholz was a lifelong area resident. He was a career airman from 1940-70 in the U.S. Air Force, serving in World War II in Europe and in Korea, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Scholz retired from Avco Lycoming in the missile division. He was married to Ruth A. Okenquist, who predeceased him.

He in survived by a daughter, Karen Scholz, of Fairfield; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Scholz, of Fairfield; a brother, Robert Scholz, of Stratford, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Joan Scholz, of Florida; a step-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Dennis; his parents, Herman and Lillian Scholz; a sister, Marguerite Hart Shaw; and three brothers, William, Frank and Ronald Scholz.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Burial with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Riverside Cemetery in Farmington, Conn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
