John Day, 87, Former Fairfield Teacher, WWII Veteran

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – John H. Day, formerly of Fairfield, died Jan. 28 at his home in Green Valley, Ariz. He was 87.

Day was born April 8, 1925, in Lincoln, Maine. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a ball turret gunner. He graduated from Oswego State Teacher's College in 1949 and taught industrial arts in Fairfield and Westport for 34 years.

He was married to Evelyn Nicholson Day for 67 years. He was also well known for his wood carving and artwork, his family said.

Day is survived by his wife; four children, Crystal (Angelo Vicari) Babin, of Huntington, Conn., Claudia (John) Dapp, of Newtown, Conn., Scott (Christine) Day, of Trumbull, and Cindy (Jack Baer, of Warren, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.
