John Charles Shalvoy, 90, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – John Charles Shalvoy, Sr., of Fairfield, died Tuesday, June 2. He was 90.

Shalvoy was born in Bridgeport to John R. and Evelyn Grace Shalvoy, graduating from Bassick High School in 1942 and attending the Junior College of Connecticut and Yale University before serving as a Naval Aviator in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After his service, he graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in industrial design. He worked as an industrial designer for 35 years in the General Electric Housewares Division (and later Black & Decker), holding 12 mechanical and design patents for irons, vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, blenders and toasters. .

Shalvoy was predeceased by his parents, wife Mary Lou and is survived by daughter Robin and son John, Jr., both of Fairfield; sisters-in-law Joan Carr Shalvoy of Longmeadow, Mass. and Elizabeth Phillips Rich of Bel Air, Md., as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Church in Fairfield.
