James S. Swendsen, 96, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- James S. Swendsen, a resident of Fairfield, died Thursday, Jan. 28. He was 96.

Swendsen served in the U.S. Army during World War II achieving the rank of staff sergeant. 

He was the retired owner of Regal Robes, where he delighted in providing liturgical robes for clergy, choir members and evangelists for most of his life.

He is survived by nieces and nephews, Barbara Lund and her husband Dick of Milford and Marilyn and Tom Watrous of Shelton; a sister-in-law, Esther Johnson of Stratford; his Godson, the Rev. Patrick Lewis and a Goddaughter, the Rev. Julia Hayes, both of Durham, NC.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S. Benson Road, Fairfield, with the Rev. David J. DeVries officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery in Fairfield.
