Cavalli was born in Ripi, Italy, to Michele and Pierina Casali Cavilli. He came to the United States in 1971, settling in Bridgeport over 40 years ago. Along with his brother, Giulio, he owned and operated several restaurants including Luigi's and Ponte Vecchio, both in Fairfield, and Cavalli's in Texas.
Cavalli is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Paolo Cavalli (Clara) of Oxford, Michela Cavalli of Black Rock; three grandchildren; brother, Giulio Cavalli (Lauren) of Fairfield; sister, Eleonora Cavalli Giorgi (Ercole) of Ripi, Italy; nieces and nephews; cousins; members of the Caruso family; and many staff who worked in his restaurants over the years. He was predeceased by his parents; uncle, Riccardo Cavalli; and niece, Viviana Cavalli.
Calling hours are Friday, Sept. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will take place Saturday, Sept. 7 at 10:45 a.m. in the funeral home, and 1130 AM in St. Thomas Church. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Shelton.
