FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Gary R. Zaleta (Z-Man) died Sunday, May 12. He was 63.
Zaleta was born Feb. 12, 1950, to Andrew J. and Helene. He grew up in Fairfield, and served in the Navy after high school. After returning from Vietnam he became a firefighter for the town of Fairfield, retiring after 25 years of service. He then became a fire marshal for the town of Monroe and a fire investigator for Thomas J. Russo Consultants of Connecticut. He belonged to the CT Firefighters Pipes and Drums, being one of the founding members.
Zaleta is survived by his wife, Sandi; children, Christopher, Jonathan and Stephanie; brother, Michael (Susan), Wayne; nieces and nephews; and many friends and relatives. He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Andrew R.
Calling hours will be Thursday, May 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Johns Cemetery, Moose Hill Road, Monroe.
