FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Elizabeth Cashavelly Geambazi of Fairfield died Tuesday, Sept. 10. She was 93.
Geambazi was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Blackstone, Mass., to George and Sophia Cashavelly. After marriage she settled with her husband in Bridgeport, where they raised their family. Prior to her marriage, she worked at the mortgage department in City Savings Bank and the personnel department at Bryant Electric Company. She retired from the Harvey Hubbell Corporation in the wage and salary department. She was a lifelong member of St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church, served as an officer for the Ladies Auxiliary and Orthodox Council. She was a member of the St. Dimitrie Retirees and she served as treasurer for 16 years.
Geambazi is survived by her daughter, Susan Neal; son, Robert (Debbie) Geambazi; six grandchildren; sisters, Betty Balamaci, Margaret Gell, Catherine Broadbin; brother, Chris Cashavelly (Cynthia); sister-in-law, Florence Geambazi; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Geambazi; and sisters Mary Bickey, Alice Bullard, Leona Pandaru and Constance Cashavelly.
Calling hours are Thursday, Sept. 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. with Trisagion services at 6 p.m. in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St Bridgeport. Rite of Burial will be held Friday, Sept. 13 at 11:30 a.m. directly at St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Road, Easton with the Rev. Cornel Todeasa and Rev. George Coca officiating, followed by interment in Mt. Grove of Easton Cemetery.
Donations may be made to St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church in memory of Geambazi.
