Eileen Fernous, 74, Former Fairfield Resident

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Eileen Mary Fernous -- a Trumbull resident and formerly a 30-year resident of Fairfield -- died on Tuesday, Jan. 12. She was 74.

Born in Rockville, Center, New York, Fernous received a bachelor's degree in sociology and religion from Fairfield University in 1994. She was a parishioner for many years at Holy Family Church, where she served as Eucharistic minister. In 2009, she and her husband were awarded the St. Augustine's Medal for Service for her parish from the Diocese of Bridgeport.

Fernous was also affiliated with the Pastoral Care and Volunteer Office at St. Vincent's Medical Center for 25 years, where she volunteered as a Catholic chaplain and Eucharistic minister. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Columbiettes.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Louis Fernous Jr.; children Danielle Marie Ingeri and her husband Robert of Trenton, New Jersey, Louis Fernous III and his wife Michele of Milford, and Guy Fernous and his wife Shannon of Trumbull; grandchildren Marissa, Robert Jr., Nicholas, Nicole, Jacqueline, Adelaide, Victoria Rose and Penelope; great-granddaughter Kaley Marie; and sister Diane Brennan and her husband Thomas of Mt. Sinai, New York.

Fernous was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Winifird Blenn.

Visitation hours will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., in Fairfield. A mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, meeting directly at Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Rd., in Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
