Dr. Edward McPadden, 88, Fairfield Dentist, WWII Vet

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Dr. Edward Paul McPadden of Fairfield died Jan. 19, with family by his side. He was 88.

Born Jan. 15, 1925, in Bridgeport, he was the son of James and Catherine McNiff McPadden. He served as a pharmacy mate in the Navy during World War II. McPadden worked as a dentist in Bridgeport for more than 32 years, practicing alongside his brother and best friend, Dr. William McPadden Sr.

He attended St. Augustine School and graduated from Bassick High School. He then graduated from the University of Maryland and the University of St. Louis School of Dentistry. He was married to Susan Donnelly McPadden for 52 years.

McPadden served as a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Fairfield. He enjoyed spending time with his family and telling stories about his childhood growing up during the Great Depression in the South End and Wood Park in Bridgeport.

He is survived by his wife; four children, Martin (Misty) McPadden, of Prospect, Conn., Edward (Mary) McPadden, of Shelton, Conn., Mary (Michael) Lynders, of Shelton, and Michael (Laura) McPadden, of Fairfield; his former daughter-in-law, Catherine McPadden, of Beacon Falls, Conn., and seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

McPadden was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine Coyne and Cecelia Cullen; and two brothers, James McPadden and Dr. William McPadden Sr.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lesko and Polke Funeral Home in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Fairfield. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull.
