Donald Bensey, 84, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CONN. — Donald A. Bensey, a longtime resident of Fairfield, died Sunday, March 29 at Bridgeport Hospital, surrounded by his 11 children. He was 84.

Bensey was born in Maybeury, W. Va.

He graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School and served in the Korean War.

He worked as a mechanical engineer along with other odd jobs.

Bensey is survived by eleven children and eighteen grandchildren; daughter Lynn and her husband, John Gadacy and grandsons, George and Thomas Gadacy; daughter Donna and her husband, Michael Harkins and granddaughters Caitlin and her husband, Russell Loesch, Meaghan and her fiancé, Ryan Donegan and Erin Harkins; son Donald Bensey, Jr. and grandson Donald Bensey III; daughter Mary and her husband, Vincent Calzone and grandsons, Vincent Jr., Timothy and Andrew Calzone; daughter Janet Fable and fiancé, John Leifels and grandchildren, Jacquie, Kristen and Charles (Teddy) Fable; daughter Ann and her husband, James Pleszko Jr., and grandchildren Emily, Michael and Lauren Pleszko; daughter Brenda and Christian Andro and grandsons Nicholas, Anthony and Joseph Andro; and sons Brian, John, Glenn and Michael Bensey; three sisters, Katherine Pietrak, Shirley Smith and Margaret Ganley; three sisters, Katherine Pietrak, Shirley Smith and Margaret Ganley.  

He was predeceased by his wife, Ann R. Bensey, and four brothers, Steven, Bernard, Eddy and Raymond Bensey.

Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, April 7, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church in Fairfield.

Interment with full military honors will be at in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.
