Charlotte Hill Amelung, 88, Lifelong Fairfield Resident

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Charlotte Hill Amelung of Fairfield died Saturday, June 8. She was 88.

Amelung was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Bridgeport, daughter of Hattie Emily Nichols and Edward Mortimer Hill. She was a lifelong resident of Fairfield.

For almost 50 years, Amelung managed the bookkeeping and details of her husband's electrical business, Cable Electric. In addition, she worked as a secretary at the Fairfield Historical Society from 1969 to 1980. She also volunteered at her children's schools, usually in the library and was active in the United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Golden Hill United Methodist Church from birth until 1973, and then joined Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church in Fairfield, holding many positions of leadership in the United Methodist Women, the board of trustees and in Sunday School.

Amelung is survived by her daughter, Joanne Amelung LaVista of Fairfield; son, Paul Edward (Marie) Amelung of Redlands, Calif.; and four grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Arnold Amelung; son, David Allen Amelung; and son-in-law, Anthony C. LaVista.

A memorial service to celebrate Amelung's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15 at Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, 1089 Fairfield Woods Road, Fairfield, CT 06825. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Energize Fundraiser at Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church.

The Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield are in charge of arrangements.
