Vaporis was born Aug. 24, 1929, in Bridgeport, to Pierre D. and Anne Roth Vaporis. He resided in Fairfield for 54 years. A 1948 graduate of Bassick High School. He joined the Eighth Army Ranger Company and rose through the ranks while serving in the Korean War. He continued his career in the military until retiring in 1971 at the rank of captain. He won numerous medals including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Valor. He worked as a salesperson for several local Volkswagen dealerships and seasonally served the Town of Fairfield as a lifeguard/ swim instructor at Jennings Beach.
Vaporis is survived by his wife, June; children, Wayne Vaporis of East Haven, Craig Vaporis of Fairfield, Drew Vaporis (Anna) of Fairfield; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; son, Todd; and brother, Rene.
All services will be private. He will be laid to rest with full military honor in Arlington National Cemetery.
