Bill Fray, 92, Fairfield School Recreation Leader

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – William R. Fray of Fairfield died Aug. 7 at his home, surrounded by family. He was 92.

Known as "Bill" or "Skip," Fray grew up in Black Rock and graduated from Bassick High School. Fray was employed by Bullards and the United Illuminating Company for 40 years and Fairfield University for 19 years. He remained working until the age of 85.

He enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the children at Holland Hill Elementary School in Fairfield, where he worked part-time work as a recreation leader for 20 years. An avid fan of the Fairfield University men's basketball team, Fray attended most games in alumni hall.

He was a member of Fairfield Grace Methodist Church. Fray's family said that he instilled in them the importance of an honest day's work, perseverance, the value of an education, enjoyment of life's simple pleasures and the value of moments spent together.

Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, at Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield. All other services will be private.
