OXFORD, Miss. - Barbara Ferenc Matis of Oxford, formerly of Southport, died Monday, Sept. 2. She was 79.
Matis was born April 24, 1934, in Poland, daughter of Stanley and Frances Radowski Ferenc. She was a communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd of Seymour and was a nurse's aide at Carolton Convalescent Home of Fairfield for many years. She moved to Oxford from Southport 20 years ago.
Matis is survived by her sons, Jack Matis (Connie) of Fairfield, Gary Matis (Darray) of Wilbraham, Mass., and David Matis of Oxford; daughters, Diane Curran (Chris) of Shelton and Wendy Siconoifi (Tony) of Stratford; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, John Edward Matis; and brother, Casimir Ferenc.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of Matis's life will be held Thursday, Sept. 5 at 10 a.m. directly at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
