FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A plan to close Route 130 at the Fairfield border to complete work to replace the railroad bridge over the roadway in Bridgeport has been delayed, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said.
The closures had been scheduled for Sept. 27 to 28 and Oct. 5 to 6, but both dates were canceled.
Instead, the closure will be from 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, until 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13. The road will be closed again from 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, until 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20.
The closure on Route 130, also known as Fairfield Avenue, will be from Commerce Drive to Railroad Avenue eastbound.
The work is the third of three stages of the work on the railroad bridge.
Detour signs will be in place. As alternate routes:
- Cars will use Pine Street, Bostwick Avenue and State Street.
- Truck traffic will use Pine Street, Wordin Avenue and State Street.
- A temporary sidewalk will be in place for pedestrian access.
The work is part of a project to overhaul the overhead catenary wire system for the Metro-North and Amtrak trains and to replace five bridges between Bridgeport and Fairfield. The contract was awarded to Ducci Electrical Contractors of Torrington in April 2007. Work is scheduled to be completed in December.
