Woman Charged With Thefts From Fairfield Cousin

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Weston woman was charged with theft from her cousin Tuesday. Rachel Johnson, 36, of Steep Hill Road, is accused of using a debit card to take $978 from the Fairfield woman’s account last fall.

The victim told police that she lent her debit card to Johnson in August in order to lend her $300, and asked for it back immediately. She received notice from People’s United Bank’s fraud department that the card had been used again in September at banks in Fairfield and Norwalk. Withdrawals were made for an additional $978, causing the account to become overdrawn, police say.

An investigation by Fairfield Police detectives and the bank named Johnson as the suspect in the withdrawals, police said. She was arrested on a warrant in Fairfield Tuesday.

Johnson was charged with fifth-degree larceny and released on a promise to appear in court on May 29.
