Woman Charged With Clothing Theft in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Westport woman was charged with shoplifting from a Fairfield store Saturday afternoon. Wendy Saltus, 42, of Post Road East allegedly took merchandise worth $437 in two trips through the shop, police say.

Security at Bob’s clothing store on the Post Road told police they saw Saltus take items from the racks and walk past the registers without paying. She put the merchandise in her car, returned to the store and tried to take more items, police said.

This time she was stopped on her way out of the store, according to the police report. When police arrived she told officers she had not been in the store earlier. But officers  found the items she was accused of stealing in her car, with security tags still attached, police say.

Saltus was charged with sixth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer. She was released on a promise to appear in court April 16.
