Whole Foods Recalls Macadamia Nuts In Fairfield Due To Salmonella

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. - Whole Foods Market, which has locations in Fairfield County, has voluntarily recalled its packaged raw macadamia nuts due to a potential salmonella risk, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The recalled product is labeled Whole Foods Market Raw Macadamia Nuts, and comes in 11-ounce plastic tubs.

The UPC code is 7695862059-1, with a best-by date of Feb. 4, 2016.

Customers should throw out such packages and take their receipt to a local Whole Foods Market for a refund.

No illnesses have been reported, but FDA testing of a batch of the nuts in question came back positive for salmonella.

The salmonella organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal complications, especially among young children, elderly people, and those with compromised immune systems.

Local stores are located in Darien, Danbury, Fairfield, Greenwich and Westport.
