Westfield Mall Puts On A New Face

Christmas shopping season is fast-approaching, which means many Fairfielders will be heading to the Westfield Shopping Center in Trumbull. Don't be surprised if you don't recognize the place. General Manager Brian Gaus cut the ribbon Friday on the mall's $35 million makeover.

"We've enhanced the center both inside and out and are very excited to show off the new Westfield Trumbull," Gaus said. "Our customers are going to discover a new dimension in shopping, dining and amenities."

The centerpiece of the renovation is the new Dining Terrace on the first level. The old food court standbys (Taco Bell, Panda Express, Sbarro) are still there, but they've been joined by such new upscale chains as Panera Bread, Salad Works and Di A Sushi and Mongolian Grill. A few new stores have moved in as well, including Sephora and Teavana, and H&M, LA Fitness and Skechers are on the way.

Gaus added that in addition to its new look, the Turmbull Shopping Park a more eco-friendly. Westfield installed new energy-efficient lighting, heating and cooling systems. And more skylights allow more natural light into the walkways.

"We worked diligently with our contractors and United Illuminating to put best practices into place to reduce energy consumption and utilize recycled materials whenever possible," said Westfield senior vice president Sarah Vasquez.

To celebrate the grand opening, the shopping center will host holiday events throughout the weekend. Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. the 30-foot Christmas tree in the new Dining Terrace will be lighted, accompanied by a choreographed light show. Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. a group of local choirs will sing holiday carols. And Sunday, Santa Claus will make his mall debut with a parade from 11 a.m. to noon.
