Watchful Fairfielder Leads To Burglary Arrest

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A suspected burglar was caught in Fairfield early Friday morning after a tip from a local resident. Police say the arrest came less than 24 hours after a campaign to increase neighborhood watch activity in the area.

A resident near Edgewood Road called police at 4:25 a.m., Friday, to report two suspicious people in the area. Police found Sara Mariani, 33, in the area with a Garmin GPS system. They believe it is the same system stolen from a parked vehicle in the driveway of an Edgewood Road home.

Police say they had been in the same neighborhood in the Stratfield section of Fairfield canvassing cars with “fake tickets.” Officer left the flyers on the windshields of car with valuables in plain sight. The “tickets” contained information about the likelihood of car break-ins in the area.

Mariani was charged with sixth-degree larceny and third-degree burglary for the incident. She was held on a $2,500 bond and taken to court Friday morning. Police are still looking for the other suspicious person described in the residents’ phone call. The suspect is a male who left the scene on foot and was not found Friday.
