Update: Fairfield I-95 Crash Sends 4 to Hospital

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Four people were hospitalized with minor injuries after an accident on Interstate 95 in Fairfield on Wednesday. In the crash, a tractor-trailer truck collided with a pair of cars on the highway, spilling its cargo of bricks and its fuel onto the roadway.

The accident occurred on the southbound side of I-95 between exits 23 and 24 just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Five vehicles were involved in the crash. After the truck collided with the two cars on the southbound side, all three struck the center divider. Two other cars were then struck on the northbound side of the highway.

The truck’s load of bricks and cement paving stones was scattered across five lanes of I-95. The tractor-trailer’s fuel tank was also punctured, spilling 50 gallons of fuel into the storm sewer before Fairfield firefighters plugged the leak.

Traffic was stalled between exits 10 and 25 on the northbound side of I-95. It is unknown how long the delay in that direction will last. Traffic was also slowed between exits 31 and 24 on the southbound side of Interstate 95. Officials expect that delay to be clear soon.

Connecticut State Police were investigating the cause of the accident.
