Two Accused of Attacking 12-Year-Old Fairfield Boy

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Two men were charged with attacking a 12-year-old Fairfield boy Sunday afternoon. The suspects also are accused of using the promise of a video game system to convince the boy to lie to authorities, Fairfield police said.

Salman Sumra, 28, of Fairfield asked the victim to come into the garage at his home on Homeland Street Sunday to talk, police said. Sumra’s friend, Raheem Salaam Jefferson, 31, of Stratford then tackled the boy to the ground and the two men then began kicking the boy, according to police reports.

The boy initially reported Sumra and Jefferson were the men who assaulted him, police said. He then recanted his earlier report, saying he was attacked by a group of teens on Park Avenue. Investigators found the boy was offered an Xbox video game system to change his story, according to police reports.

Both men were charged with third-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor. Jefferson also was charged with bribery of a witness and disorderly conduct, and Sumra also was charged with interfering with a witness. Both were held on a $10,000 bond and taken to court Monday.
