The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that limited service on the New Haven Line will begin Tuesday at 3 p.m. The first train to run to New Haven will leave Grand Central at 3:07 p.m.
Metro-North and the Connecticut Department of Transportation have done enough work to reopen one of the two tracks damaged in Friday’s collision near the Bridgeport-Fairfield border. Both MTA and Amtrak trains will be able to use the track Tuesday afternoon.
“We recognize the critical importance of both Metro-North Railroad and Amtrak to the regional economy,” Metro-North President Howard Permut said in a press release. “Although reconstruction and testing of the second track will not be completed until late tonight, enough work has been completed to allow us to operate this limited service in advance of resuming our regular schedule on Wednesday.”
On the New Haven Line, trains will run from South Norwalk to Grand Central, as they have been. From there the line will have limited service to New Haven, with about half the normal number of trains running on the northbound side Tuesday. In the New York-bound direction, trains will run at full capacity starting with the 4:23 p.m. from New Haven.

The first full-service Amtrak train to New York will leave Boston at 3:15 p.m. Amtrak will also have an Acela Express heading out of New York toward Boston starting at 4 p.m. Tickets and more information are available on the Amtrak website.
