Thief Takes $25K in Jewelry From Fairfield Home

Fairfield police were looking for a thief who allegedly swiped more than $25,000 worth of jewelry from a Putting Green Road home. Witnesses say the suspect was a white male driving a gray or green SUV.

The homeowner told police Monday that he left home at about 8:45 a.m. Monday, and when he returned at about 4:45 p.m., the back door had been kicked in and the front door was open. There were signs that the suspect tore through the bedrooms looking for items. A black leather jewelry box containing about $25,000 was missing.

Neighbors say they saw a four-door green vehicle in the home’s driveway just before the homeowner returned. Another witness told police that a gray Jeep Cherokee was also in driveway that morning, and that a man was looking around the house. Police say the suspect is a white male, between 5 foot 8’ and 5 foot 10, weighing 180 pounds. Anyone with information should contact the Detective Bureau at 203-254-4800.

• Javoni Patton, 23, of Stratford, was arrested Monday on shoplifting charges at the Home Depot on Kings Highway Cutoff. Store security told Fairfield police that Patton was seen removing a pair of cutting shears from the packaging and placing them in his pants pocket. Security officers said they stopped him after he walked past the cash registers toward the exit.

Fairfield police took him into custody and charged him with sixth-degree larceny. They also found that the vehicle he was driving was parked in a handicap-reserved spot, and he was issued a misdemeanor summons for that offense. He was released Monday on $500 bond and is due in court April 12.
