SUV Crashes into Chase Bank

A SUV driven by Benjamin Ajisefinni, 54, crashed into the Chase Bank on Black Rock Turnpike at 8 today, resulting in no injuries, but causing $15,000 in damage, according to the Fairfield Fire Department.

Ajisefinni, a Bridgeport resident, was able to exit the vehicle under his own power and refused medical treatment at the scene. There were no injuries in the bank either, although the vehicle entered the building near the doorway, damaging the vestibule and lobby, while employees were inside.

When firefighters responded to the call, they found the SUV parked outside of the bank with a wrecked front-end and observed the damage to the doorway. The firefighters checked to see if Ajisefinni had any injuries and then determined what caused the crash. Ajisefinni was driving north in the parking lot in a 2002 Mercedes SUV, when he went over the curb and hit a concrete barrier pole on the way into the glass doorway.

Police said that no charges have been filed against Ajisefinni.

The bank was able to reopen shortly after the accident, although damage was done to one of the two ATMs in the lobby and that remains unusable, according to bank employees.
