? At the state level, the Connecticut General Assembly approved many reforms this past week, including an increase in the minimum wage, a bill that allows undocumented immigrants to apply for drivers licenses and a “blue alert” system to notify the public of at-large suspects of violence against police officers.

? Saturday saw the arrival of two new features in Fairfield. The downtown area saw the first installment of the Pop Shop Market on Sanford Street. And the newly renovated Southport Park held its grand opening that same morning.

? Fairfield continues to grow, as the town’s population is now more than 60,000, according to the latest estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau.

? McKinley Elementary School found out who its next principal will be this week. Leslie Pearson will take over the job this summer.

? In crime news, the Fairfield Police responded to an armed robbery Monday night. A man reported that he was threatened during a drug deal in a Fairfield Park. The man and three robbery suspects were all arrested.
