Six Charged, 2 Hospitalized in Fairfield Bar Brawl

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Six people were charged with crimes ranging from impersonating a police officer to assault after a fight at a Fairfield bar early Saturday morning. The brawl sent two of the restaurant’s employees to the hospital with minor injuries, police say.

The fight began at 1:30 a.m. at Vinny’s Ale House on the Post Road. Agustin Cruz, 32, of Shelton announced “I’m a cop” during an argument, according to police reports. Agustin, a Trumbull volunteer firefighter, also waved around a silver badge, police say.

The fight turned physical when the restaurant’s manager was punched in the head, sending him into a booth. Another male restaurant employee was punched and a female bartender was pulled across the restaurant by her hair by a trio of women, according to police reports.

The manager and the woman were taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital for treatment for cuts and bruises. The third employee, who also suffered cuts and bruises, declined a ride to the hospital.

Cruz was charged with criminal impersonation of a police officer. Daniel Martinez, 30, of Shelton was charged with third-degree assault. Four others face third-degree assault and disorderly conduct charges: Thomas Chanaca, 31, of Easton, Claribel Rodriguez, 21, of Stratford, Glady Rodriguez, 25, of Trumbull, and Yulissa Rodriguez, 24, of Stratford.

All six were released on a promise to appear in court, and are due to face charges on May 1.
