FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield Police are looking for a shrub thief or perhaps thieves. Police received reports of two thefts of unplanted shrubs and trees from town in the past week.
The most recent incident occurred at BJs Wholesale Club on Black Rock Turnpike at about 8:30 p.m. Monday. The stores manager told police that a man drove up to the store and loaded six rose bushes and four arborvitae trees into a car and drove off without paying. The items were valued at a combined $222.
The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male in his 30s or 40s. Witnesses said he got into a brown, late 90s Honda Accord or Toyota Camry and took off in an unknown direction.
This is the second case of shrubbery theft in Fairfield over the past week. On Wednesday a Pequot Avenue resident told police that four unplanted shrubs were stolen the night before. The shrubs were valued at $940 combined.
It is not yet clear if the two incidents are related. Anyone with information should contact the Fairfield Police at 203-254-4800.
