Severe Storms Lead To Power Outages In Fairfield County

With severe thunderstorms rolling through the region, thousands of Connecticut residents were left without power.

Storms struck the area on Wednesday afternoon, July 31, leaving crews scrambling to restore power to several neighborhoods.

As of late Wednesday afternoon, Eversource was reporting multiple outages that left 1,390 of their 1,275,213 customers without power. In Fairfield County, Greenwich has the most outages with 69, followed by Stamford (51).

United Illuminating is reporting 1,235 outages in Fairfield County, with Shelton the hardest hit at 777, followed by Trumbull at 144.

Strong wind gusts of between 60 and 70 miles per hour could bring down trees and tree limbs, leading to power outages, and at least a half-inch of rain is expected during the day.
