Samuel L. Fracassini, a lifelong Fairfield resident, died Monday at the age of 86. Fracassini was the owner and operator of Fairfields Sport Hill Fuel Company.
Fracassini was born July 14, 1924. After graduating from Roger Ludlowe High School, he enlisted in the Army. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor during World War II. After returning home, he opened Sport Hill Fuel Company, which he ran until his retirement.
Fracassini loved golf and was a longtime member of the H. Smith Richardson Mens Club. After retiring, he worked as the courses cart man in his spare time. Fracassini was also an active member of the Gaelic-American Club.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen Reidy Fracassini; three sons, Mark R. Fracassini and his wife, Laura, of Shelton, Dean L. Fracassini of Fairfield and Gregory D. Fracassini and his wife, Amy, of Easton; two brothers, Philip Fracassini and his wife, Jan, of Fairfield and John Fracassini of Bridgeport; a sister, Loretta Rashke; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marjorie Ballerini Fracassini, who was the mother of his sons, and his second wife, Anne DeLuca Fracassini.
Calling hours are Thursday, Jan. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A funeral service will begin at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 28, at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, and burial at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
