FAIRFIELD, Conn. Ronald A. Clayton, a 36-year Fairfield resident, died Thursday at the age of 64. Clayton practiced intellectual property law for much of his life.
Clayton was born June 12, 1947, in Neptune, N.J., and grew up in Freehold, N.J. He was valedictorian of Freehold Regional High Schools Class of 1965. He attended Stevens Institue of technology, where he played catcher for the schools baseball team and sang in the glee club while earning his bachelors degree in physics. He earned his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1972.
For much of his professional career Clayton was an attorney with Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto. He became a partner in 1983 and chaired the firms Copyrights Practice Group. He had also served as chairman of the Connecticut Bar Associations Patent, Trademark and Copyright Section and on the Board of Directors for the New York Intellectual Property Law Association.
Outside of the courtroom, Clayton was an avid follower of politics. He was also a big fan of the New York Giants, and golfed frequently at the Patterson Club in Fairfield.
Clayton is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Beth; his daughters, Meredith, Lindsay and Elizabeth; his brother, Curtis, and his wife, Marcella; his mother and father in law, Jack and Betty Geiger, and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Burial was Monday after a ceremony at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Ave., Norwalk, CT 06851, or Mercy Learning Center, 637 Park Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06604.
