Raymond Gabriele, M.D., of Fairfield died March 11 at the age of 62. Gabriele was a local physician and one of the founders of Pri-Med, a group practice with offices in Fairfield, Trumbull and Bridgeport.
Gabriele was born in Bridgeport on June 14, 1948. After graduating from Notre Dame High School in Fairfield and Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he earned his medical degree from the University of Rome School of Medicine. He then returned to Bridgeport, where he performed his internship and residency at St. Vincents Medical Center before opening his private practice in 1979.
After retiring in 2005, Gabriele taught nursing classes at Southern Connecticut State University and Sacred Heart University. He was also an active student himself through much of his life, continuing his study of languages, literature, history and theater at local universities.
Gabriele is survived by his wife, Linda; two children, Lauren and Raymond, and his sister, Bernadette, and brother-in law, Steven Willard. He was buried Tuesday morning at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Vincent's College of Nursing, c/o St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation, 2800 Main St., Bridgeport, CT 06606.
