Purse Thefts Reported Across Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A group of purse thefts were reported in Fairfield during the past few days. The four thefts resulted in losses ranging from $200 to $1,900 for the owners.

The most valuable items were taken from a car left unlocked on Riverside Drive Thursday night. The car’s owner reported to police the purse was left inside the car. It contained a wallet valued at $600 and $400 in cash. The suspect also took an iPod worth $300, a pair of $200 sunglasses and a pair of $400 reading glasses.

Two of the thefts occurred at public gatherings Friday night. A customer at Old Post Tavern told police she left her purse on a chair while she danced nearby. At 11:45 p.m. Friday, she realized it was missing. About $200 in cash and two cell phones — one Blackberry and one iPhone — were inside.

That same night, a student at Sacred Heart University reported a similar incident at a dinner dance at the school. The woman left a wristlet on one of the tables at the function and discovered it missing a half hour later. An iPhone 4S, valued at $500, also was missing.

The other reported theft occurred at Super Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Sunday evening. The victim told police the purse was left inside a shopping cart. A wallet containing credit cards and about $200 in cash was taken from inside while the cart was left unattended. Police are attempting to track the suspect from video surveillance footage.
