Primary Voters Head to the Polls

Fairfield voters will head to the polls to cast votes in several primary elections today. And even though there are no local races, the gubernatorial, attorney general and Congressional primaries are especially heated this year.

To see where you can go to vote, visit the town's voter information website. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Only those affiliated with a party are eligible to vote for that party's primary.

The Republican ticket has three state races: governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. There are also primaries to decide who will challenge U.S. Rep. Jim Himes in the Fourth District and who will represent the Republicans in the race for the open U.S. Senate seat against Richard Blumenthal. Democratic voters will decide who will represent the party in four state races: governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of the state and comptroller.

On the Republican side, Tom Foley, Michael Fedele and Oz Griebel will battle in the gubernatorial primary. Primaries also will be held for lieutenant governor (Mark Boughton vs. Lisa-Wilson Foley), U.S. senate (Linda McMahon vs. Peter Schiff vs. Rob Simmons), U.S. Congress (Rick Torres vs. Don Debicella vs. Rob Merkle) and state attorney general (Martha Dean vs. Ross Garber).

In addition to the Democratic governor candidate primary between Dan Malloy and Ned Lamont, there will be a primary for lieutenant governor (Nancy Wyman vs. Mary Messina Glassman), secretary of the state (Denise Merrill vs. Gerald Garcia) and state comptroller (Kevin Lembo vs. Michael Jarjura).
