Police Use Taser to End Arguments

Police used a Taser to restrain Dwayne Murray, 27, of Carthage Street, after an argument with his ex-girlfriend turned violent and nearly harmed the woman's young child.

Murray's ex-girlfriend told police that he appeared at the home they previously shared on Carthage Street at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, apparently intoxicated. When she refused to let him inside and tried to walk away, Murray grabbed her arms, walked her across the street and held her against a brick wall, while shouting obscenities. He released her when neighbors came outside.

He returned to the home at about 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, while the ex-girlfriend was asleep. After she refused his demands to come outside, Murray tried opening the windows, then shoved an air-conditioner unit into the home, nearly striking the woman's 6-year-old daughter. The ex-girlfriend then locked herself in the closet and called the police.

Officers found Murray on Fairchild lying facedown in bushes. He did not respond to three requests to show his hands, so police used a Taser to control him and place him under arrest. After being treated at St. Vincent's Hospital, Murray was charged with risk of injury to a minor, second-degree unlawful restraint, interfering with an officer, threatening and two counts of a breach of the peace. He was held on $10,000 bond and appeared in court Wednesday.
