FAIRFIELD, Conn. A Bridgeport man was charged with robbery at the Super Stop & Shop on Villa Avenue Thursday evening.
Marvin Hampton, 50, was accused of threatening to pull a gun on store employees in order to steal 64 packs of gum, police said.
Store employees reported a pair of alleged thefts just before 9 p.m. Thursday. One suspect left the store carrying bags of dog food and cereal that were not paid for, and, shortly after, another man alegedly left carrying a plastic bag with $270 worth of stolen gum.
An assistant manager at the store said he stopped the man carrying the gum. The suspect allegedly reached toward his waistband and threatened to shoot the man if he did not leave him alone, police said.
Fairfield Police K-9 officer Ruger tracked the suspect to Tunxis Hill Road, finding Hampton. The assistant manager positively identified him as the man who threatened to pull a gun, according to police reports. No weapon was found on Hampton.
Hampton was charged with first-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny Thursday. Police also found he had an active warrant for his arrest for charges in Bridgeport. He was held on a $50,000 bond, and taken to court Friday morning.
Police still are looking for the other suspect in the thefts. He was described as a black male in his 40s with dreadlocks. He was wearing a red shirt at the time of the robbery, police said.
