A driver was hospitalized Friday morning after becoming trapped underneath his car in an accident near the Fairfield rest stop on Interstate 95. Paramedics rushed the driver to St. Vincents Medical Center with serious injuries.
The man drove his sedan into the back of a parked truck at the entrance to the rest stop at Exit 22 in Fairfield at about 4 a.m. Friday. The impact ejected him from his car, and he wound up stuck underneath. Fairfield Fire Department crews used inflatable air bags to lift the car off the ground and hydraulic tools to peel away the metal to remove the injured man.
Fire crews took about 30 minutes to free the driver. Paramedics treated the victim during the extrication process and took him to St. Vincents for further treatment. The drivers name and current condition were not available.
