Part of Fairfield Home Falls Into Pine Creek

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A portion of one of the Fairfield Beach Road homes damaged by Tropical Storm Irene collapsed into Pine Creek Wednesday morning. The home was unoccupied at the time. The room floated in the water for nearly four hours before work crews were able to retrieve it.

Fairfield Police Lt. Thomas Mrozek noticed the portion of the house floating in the creek at about 8:40 a.m. Crews determined it was a 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom that had fallen off the back of the home, located at 2154 Fairfield Beach Road. The rising tide then carried the pieces upstream.

Fairfield Fire and Department of Public Works employees managed to pull the room out of the water by 1 p.m. No one was hurt in the incident.
