More Services Open for Powerless Fairfielders

FAIRIFIELD, Conn .— Power is gradually coming back on in Fairfield. United Illuminating’s latest report said 29 percent of Fairfield's homes, or 6,850, were still without electricity as of 10 a.m. Wednesday. But if you’re still one of those making do without power, here are some more services open to Fairfielders:

? Shoprite Supermarket on Black Rock Turnpike is the Fairfield Police’s mobile command post. They have bags of ice and bottles of water to distribute to homeowners. Each household may receive two bags of ice and three one-liter bottles of water.

? Fairfield University has opened its Recreation Center for residents needing to shower. Wings over Water (2221 Black Rock Turnpike), Planet Fitness (111 Black Rock Turnpike) and Penfield Pavilion are also open to the public for showers.

? Fairfield University’s campus center is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., offering free food for those without power.

? Operation Hope’s pantry is open walk-in basis Monday, Wednesday adnd Friday from 10 a.m. to noon and Thursday 4 p.m to 6 p.m.. Their kitchen at 50 Nichols St. is also open every day from 11:30 a.m to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

? Chip’s Family Restaurant (525 Tunxis Hill Cutoff) has free coffee for senior citizens. Donut Inn also donated coffee to the Parish Court Housing Complex.
