Memorial Day: What's Happening in Fairfield

Monday is Memorial Day, and that means much of Fairfield will shut down to celebrate. Here’s a rundown of closings around town, and information on Fairfield’s parade.

? All town offices and buildings are closed Monday, including the Transfer Station and Recycling Center.

? Both branches of the Fairfield Public Library and the Pequot Library are closed Sunday and Monday.

? Fairfield Public Schools are closed Monday.

? Fairfield’s Memorial Day parade begins at 10 a.m. The route runs from South Pine Creek Road, up the Post Road to the Fairfield Public Library. It then turns on Old Post Road and continues to the Town Hall Green. There will be no street parking along the route all day Monday, and those roads will be closed to traffic during the parade.

? After the parade, two organizations located near the Town Hall Green will hold Memorial Day picnics. The Fairfield Historical Society will hold its annual Community Picnic from noon to 4 p.m. on the lawn of the Fairfield Museum and History Center, behind Old Town Hall. Across the street, the First Church Congregational will have a barbecue on the church lawn, at 148 Beach Road.
