Man Arrested on Weapons Charges in Fairfield

A Bridgeport man was arrested Thursday morning near the town line in Fairfield with a handgun and knife in his car, police reported. Shaye Plummer, 21, of Lakeview Avenue was arrested on a series of weapons and motor vehicle charges near Suburban Avenue.

Detectives from the Fairfield Police were staking out Suburban Avenue Thursday morning after a string of home burglaries occurred in the area. They saw Plummer, and after running his plate number, they found it was not for the car he was driving. When the detectives pulled Plummer over around the corner, a man fled from the passenger seat. In a search of the car, they reported finding a .38 caliber pistol and a four-inch buck knife under the driver’s seat.

Plummer was charged with two counts of possession of  a weapon in a motor vehicle, along with various motor vehicle charges. He was released on a promise to appear in court on March 21. Police are also investigating the identity of his passenger, and whether either man is connected to the burglaries.
