June Declared 'Fairfield Arts Month'

First Selectman Ken Flatto declared June “Fairfield Arts Month” at a press conference held at the Fairfield Arts Council this afternoon, along with leaders of the Fairfield art community. The goal is to highlight the important role that arts and culture play in the town, while encouraging residents to participate in the many events that will be provided.

“The town is always seeking ways to celebrate the many local arts and cultural events throughout Fairfield and June 2010 offers more special events than ever before,” said Flatto.

The June events kick off with the 36th annual Fairfield Public Schools Student Art Show at Fairfield University, which will be held from , concluding with a student reception on tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m.

Highlights of the other events include a Fairfield Photographers Network meeting at the Ars Council at 2:30 p.m. on June 4, comedian Earl David Reed at StageOne at the FTC on June 5, a Gallery Stroll through Fairfield galleries on June 12, a baseball themed exhibit at Fairfield Musuem and History Center opening on June 20 and a free outdoor Pops Concert by the Greater Bridgeport Symphony at Fairfield University at 8 p.m. on June 26. Flatto was joined at the press conference by Arts Council Director Billie Jean Sullivan, Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County Board Member Gillian Anderson, Fairfield Community Theater owner Leo Redgate, Miles Marke, the producing director at the Fairfield Theatre Company and Susan Balla of the Fairfield Public Library.

Sullivan said: “We are so pleased to be the ‘go to’ organization in the Town of Fairfield for the arts. With so many arts and cultural organizations in the community, its no wonder that Fairfield has been recognized as one of the best places to live in CT.”

 

ARTS EVENTS

June 1 to 3: 36th Annual Fairfield Public Schools Student Art Show at Fairfield University Barone Campus Center, 2-9 p.m. with a student reception and demonstration Wednesday, June 2 from 7-9 p.m.

June 4: Fairfield Photographers Network, held at FAC from 2:30-4:30 p.m..  Come meet other local photographers, share your work and learn about happenings and opportunities in the community.

June 5: Comedian Earl David Reed on StageOne at the Fairfield Theatre Company. Comedian Earl David Reed was once 245 pounds and is now a lean, mean laugh machine.

June 8: Lamp Post Banner Kick Off Event, Sherman Green Gazebo, 4-6 p.m.

Free & Open to the public…Public School Artists & Lamp Post Sponsors are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.

June 12: Gallery Stroll: Eight Fairfield galleries will be open from 2-4 p.m. Refreshments will be served at many venues. Get your sneakers on… there’s a lot of galleries in Fairfield (Southport too). Don’t worry if you can’t make this one, Fairfield Arts Council will coordinate another Gallery Stroll in September & again Thanksgiving weekend.

June 13: Book signing & Reading with Master Gardener & Author: Sydney Eddison "Gardening for a Lifetime.” Artist & Illustrator: Kim Proctor will be present to show her original illustrations for this new book by Timberpress.  Books will be available for purchase at the event.

June 17: Brown Bag Lunch Discussion with New England Wax Artists (art on exhibit at FAC) and FAC Curator, Laura Einstein 12:30-1:30 p.m.

June 19: Maureen Hamill takes to the stage one for one night only on StageOne. Maureen brings to Stage One a concert filled with unique arrangements of classic Broadway and pop songs. 7:30 p.m.

June 20: It's a Hit! Baseball Exhibit Opening! Fairfield Museum & History Center, 1:00 pm View the opening and celebrate Father’s Day with fun, family-friendly activities.

June 26: Outdoor Pops Concert by the Greater Bridgeport Symphony, 8pm at Fairfield University.

June 29: Off the Wall Community Storytelling at Fairfield Theatre Company, StageOne, 7:30 p.m.
