July Is Peak Month For Lightning Strike Deaths

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – July is the peak month for deaths caused by lightning strikes, reports the Weather Channel.

Summer has more thunderstorms that occur during a season where more people are outside, leading to a higher number strikes – an average of 15 lightning deaths occurred in July from 2006 to 2014.

To date, there have been 17 lightning deaths in the U.S., according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
