FAIRFIELD, Conn. Joseph J. Giannone of Fairfield died Saturday, July 23, at the age of 80. Giannone was an engineer in the area for 50 years.
He was born in Bridgeport on March 25, 1931. After graduating from Central High School, he earned a degree in engineering from the University of Bridgeport. He served in the U.S. Navy before beginning his career as an engineer. After returning to Fairfield, he worked for Salmini Company, Fletcher Thompson and the F.I.P. Corporation.
Giannone was an avid fisherman and a member of the Fairfield County Fish and Game Club. He was also a devoted Catholic and served as a eucharistic minister in St. Pius X Church. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and the Businessmens Bible Class.
Giannone was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline, his brothers, George and John, and his sister, Theresa. He is survived by three children: Karen G. Wise and her significant other, David Salo, of Westwood, Mass., Lisa Coconides and her husband, Lou, of Belmont, Mass., and Keith J. Giannone and his significant other and special caregiver, Dawn Martin, of Fairfield; four grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Rita Giannone of Florida and Alice Giannone of Trumbull, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S. Benson Road. A Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, followed by burial at Oak Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Swim Across the Sound, 2800 Main St., Bridgeport, CT 06606.
