Jewelry, Change Stolen From Fairfield Homes

Burglars hit two Fairfield homes Monday afternoon. Though the houses are in different sections of town, the suspects made off with the same types of items from each: jewelry and large amounts of change.

One incident occurred on Brookmere Drive between noon and 2:45 p.m. Monday. The homeowner arrived to find the door open and later noticed small pry marks on the doorframe. She told police that “several thousand dollars” worth of jewelry, a silver jewelry box and about $100 worth of change in a jar were missing. Her son said his $100 iPod, a $60 video camera and a $1,300 MacBook laptop were also taken.

The other burglary happened on Mill Hill Terrace between 9:45 a.m. and 5 p.m. The resident told police that all but one of his doors and windows were locked. When he arrived home, there was no sign of a forced entry. A pillowcase was missing from his bed, along a jewelry box containing several pieces of jewelry, he said. His change jar was also taken, containing an estimated $1,000 in coins.

Fairfield police were investigating both incidents. At this time, they do not have suspects in either case.

Also from the police blotter:

• Police received a second round of reports of a suspicious man attempting to sell fish out of his truck in the Brooklawn area Monday. A Brooklawn Avenue resident told police that a white male in his 50s knocked on her door, asking whether she would like to buy seafood. He said he had some left over from a wedding at a country club and was trying to get rid of it. The woman declined.

Police say the witness’s description matches the one from a similar incident a few months ago, at a home on Querida Street, just around the corner from Monday’s incident. Police were investigating.
