FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Two homes on Fairfield Beach Road have collapsed and efforts are underway to rescue people who did not evacuate the coastal area, says Sgt. Suzanne Lussier of the Fairfield Police Department.
Witnesses also report that several homes on the road have been damaged, Lussier says.
A mandatory evacuation order remains in effect for homes south of Edwards Street at Reef Road.
"Even though the tide has reached its peak, serious dangers still remain and travel is extremely hazardous," Lussier says. "Utility companies report there are live wires down, some intertwined with trees and branches. Residents should remain in their homes for their protection and allow emergency personnel to survey the damage, prioritize calls for service and to maneuver through the streets as quickly as possible withou tdelay to save lives still at risk."
