Historian Art Gottlieb will talk about the World War I event that set the backdrop for the fictitious Christmas Eve dogfight on Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities in Fairfield.
The event, which is free and open to the public, starts at 6:30 p.m. Registration is required.
The so-called Christmas truce was a series of widespread, but unofficial, ceasefires along the Western Front in 1914. German and British soldiers temporarily put down their arms and ventured into no-man’s land to exchange seasonal greetings, swap food and gifts, and sing carols.
A light supper will be provided by Interim Healthcare at the event.
