Do you have a story to tell about how the U.S. economy has affected you? Are you upset over the current federal budget situation? Do you have a suggestion to help turn things around? U.S. Rep. Jim Himes wants to hear from you. This Thursday, foHimes is hosting a town meeting on Thursday at Fairfield Ludlowe High School from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. to discuss the federal budget and hear those gripes and suggestions.
"Our budget problems are severe and complex, and putting our country on the path toward fiscal sustainability requires a thoughtful, nuanced approach," said Himes, D-4th District, who represents the 4th Congressional District and is sposoring the meeting, in a statement.
Himes is attempting to gather "input from constituents on how they would like to see the federal budget balance." He will provide an outline of the federal budgeting process and then open the floor for suggestions from constituents.
Forrmer U.S. comptroller, the Hon. David Walker, will lead the meeting. Walker was the comptroller under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. He is now the president and CEO of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation. It is a nonpartisan group aiming to raise awareness of the urgency of economic challenges facing the country and speed up action to address those issues.
"I'm honored Mr. Walker, one of the nation's foremost experts on the federal budget, will join us to outline these challenges and discuss what we can do moving forward to begin fixing our fiscal problems," Himes stated.
Walker has written three books, his most recent, Comeback America, shows how the U.S. can return to its founding principles of fiscal responsibility and stewardship for future generations.Himes will also hold a town hall meeting at New Canaan High School on Aug. 12 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
