The Flash Flood Watch is in effect for most of southwestern and central Connecticut, the Hudson River Valley in New York and northeastern New Jersey as well as New York City as the new workweek begins.
Showers and thunderstorms will bring heavy rain as a cold front sinks into the area early Monday, the weather service said.
Heavy rainfall of up to 2 to 3 inches of precipitation are possible Monday and could cause flash flooding. The flooding is likely in urban and poor drainage area.
Areas that received heavy rain on Sunday night and overnight are especially vulnerable, the weather service warned.
Localized rainfall coud be over 4 inches in some parts of the metropolitan New York City area.
The showers will be steady Monday with a high temperature of only about 59 degrees with east winds of 8 to 10 mph, the weather service said. Thunderstorms are possible into the evening, and some of the storms could produce heavy rains. New rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible.
