A 68-year-old Greenwich man died Saturday from injuries received in a bus accident Friday in Fairfield. Fairfield police spokesperson Sgt. Susan Lussier said Francis Defreitas of Greenwich was preparing to exit the bus near Reef Road when a dark-red Volkswagen cut in front of the bus, causing the bus driver to swerve to the right. Defreitas was launched forward into a divider. The accident occurred around 12:35 p.m.
Defreitas was rushed to St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport. Lussier said he suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead Saturday at 2:52 p.m.
Police are still searching for the operator of the vehicle. Anyone who witnessed the accident should contact the Fairfield Police Accident Investigation Unit at (203) 254-4808.
